We want to hear from residents who experience bowel and bladder issues.

The NHS estimates that 14 million people of all ages are living with bladder problems, and one in 10 of the population is affected by faecal incontinence.

We know this can be difficult to discuss and people are often embarrassed.

People in North Tyneside have told us that dealing with incontinence can have a major impact on their quality of life, self-confidence and ability to get out and about.

We have heard from some people who are trying to manage the condition themselves, whilst others seek help from the NHS.

Through our engagement on this issue we want to understand:
o How big a problem this is
o How it impacts on people’s lives
o What support people have accessed
o What works well and what could be better.

We want to bring this condition into the open and find out more about people’s concerns. This way we can work with local NHS service providers and commissioners, businesses and community organisations to make sure residents in North Tyneside have access to trusted information and support when they most need it.

We are planning a series of community conversations across North Tyneside alongside this survey.

Join us at one of our discussion sessions on:

  • Thursday 20 August -10.30am to 12.30pm in Longbenton
  • Wednesday 26 August – 1.00pm to 3.00pm in Wallsend (and online)
  • Tuesday 8 September – 1.00pm to 3.00pm in Whitley Bay

Please email info@hwnt.co.uk or call 0191 2635321 for more information and to book a place.

In addition to this work, we are working with the NHS continence service in North Tyneside to gather views of people impacted by changes to their service.

Please share your experiences via our online survey here:
