New plans are being developed for a completely new approach to delivering mental health services in North Tyneside.

Local people with experience of using mental health services, and those supporting them, are being invited to contribute to the development of plans for a new community-based approach to delivering mental health services in North Tyneside.

Background

The NHS in North Tyneside has received Government funding to improve local mental health services. The funding is to join-up services so that they are easier to use and really focus on the needs of each person in the community.

A community-based approach is being developed by North Tyneside NHS in response to feedback from local people who asked for a more joined-up mental health service. This will bring together services in one place, making it easier for people to get help that focuses on their individual needs.

The new approach could take the shape of a mental health services hub that will include primary care such as GP services, talking therapies, and secondary care services such as community mental health teams and crisis teams. Support for other issues including housing, money and debt problems could also be part of it.

How to get involved

This is a rare opportunity for people with experience of mental health services to be involved in shaping these plans from the very beginning.

A partnership between Healthwatch North Tyneside, Launchpad North Tyneside and the NHS has been set up to gather the views of people with experience of using mental health services in North Tyneside, or supporting someone who has, on how it should work and if it is the right solution for the delivery of local mental health services.

People can contribute by joining a focus group, taking part in surveys, or working directly with health professionals.
