A recruitment drive has been launched by Healthwatch North Tyneside to attract new volunteers.
Healthwatch is the independent voice for users of health and social care services in the borough and can offer volunteers varied and flexible opportunities that fit around your other commitments, as well as free training and ongoing support.
If you have some spare time and want to contribute to your local community, whatever your background or skills/experience, volunteering for your local patient champion could be very rewarding.
About the role
You will meet new people and increase your understanding of health and social care by:
- Talking to people at community events and helping to raise awareness of Healthwatch
- Visiting health and care services to talk to service users about their experiences and observing how services run
- Taking notes and drafting reports
- Providing information on local services and, where appropriate, signposting to these organisations
- Talking to groups of people in the community to find out about the services they use.
What our volunteers say
Volunteer David Harrison said: “I volunteer with Healthwatch North Tyneside to hopefully make a difference, to enable members of the public to feel relevant, supported, valued and listened to. I enjoy the interaction with – and support of – the Healthwatch staff team and volunteers.”
Fellow volunteer Cheryl Muirhead added: “I enjoy engaging with members of the public, learning about the different issues and obstacles that people face in accessing health and care services and starting to find out about possible sources of support and help.”
Induction training sessions are planned for the week beginning July 21 for new volunteers.
Healthwatch North Tyneside’s Volunteer and Engagement Coordinator Amanda Graydon said: “Our volunteers provide an essential role supporting the staff team to carry out our work in community engagement, research, visiting venues and preparing reports for our Board and the commissioners and providers of health and care services.
