If you need non-urgent medical help you should contact your GP or visit this page for other relevant services.

Access to GP services

In line with advice across the NHS, most practices are currently using a triage system either by phone or online. You will need to explain the problem you have and the support you need so that the practice staff can arrange the necessary care or treatment – by phone, video or in person.

  • You should contact your practice by phone, online or via the NHS app for a clinical assessment.
  • You can contact NHS 111 online or by phone if you need help.
  • eConsult: You will be asked about your symptoms, previous treatments and preferred outcome. It is worth thinking about this in advance.

If you are told to go to hospital it is important that you follow this advice.

Speak to your GP practice about your health and care needs. We would like to hear from you if you are struggling to access the care you need. You can contact us if your GP practice is not giving you the support that you need.

The NHS has produced this short animation to show what happens in a GP practice.
