Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do.

Volunteers play an important role at Healthwatch North Tyneside. As a small charity with a small staff team, we rely on our amazing volunteers to help us deliver our goals of improving local health and care. Our volunteers are out in the community listening to people to find out if health and care is working for them.

Whether it is gaining valuable work experience, helping to improve care in the community or learning new skills, there are lots of ways our volunteers make a real difference.

What our volunteers have to say

We are proud of the way we support and develop our volunteers. One recruit said:

“I think the induction for new volunteers is excellent, it is non-threatening, informative and inclusive. I’ve had lots of training to help me in my volunteering role including safeguarding, deaf awareness and equalities and diversity – it has all been of a very high and professional quality. What I find particularly helpful about training events is that everyone is valued and there are opportunities for new volunteers to work with and learn from more experienced volunteers.”

Meet some of our volunteers

Maddy, Healthwatch volunteer

“I have long had an interest in the NHS and healthcare in general. I wanted to give back and contribute to the community by listening to them, then helping people understand what help and support is available. I’ve been a volunteer for some time and supported Healthwatch by inputting paper surveys, attending volunteer meetings, and sharing surveys."

Michael, Healthwatch volunteer

"I enjoy working with the warm and welcoming Healthwatch team. I feel I am doing something useful and it has helped me find a sense of belonging. Volunteering with Healthwatch is flexible, you can do as much or as little as you are able and there are a range of ways to contribute. No two days are the same, there is always plenty of variety.

Colin, Healthwatch volunteer

"I’m Colin and I promote Healthwatch in community venues and at different community events. The link to health is attractive to me because of my earlier career. In particular, I am interested to hear about people’s experiences of health and social care services and to help feed back these views to those responsible for providing these services. I know how important it is for me to record the feedback I receive and report back to the Healthwatch team. I like being part of the Healthwatch team and knowing that we have a positive impact."
