Meet Our New Chair of Trustees at Healthwatch North Tyneside – Carol Nevison

November 22, 2023

After three successful years, Julia Charlton stepped down as chair of our board of trustees at our recent AGM. Read our goodbye to Julia here: https://healthwatchnorthtyneside.co.uk/news/julia-charlton-steps-down-as-chair/

Stepping into the role is former Healthwatch North Tyneside trustee Carol Nevison, who had this to say:

I am thrilled to be taking up the position of chair of the board of trustees of Healthwatch North Tyneside and would like to pass on my thanks to our outgoing chair, Julia Charlton, for her support and leadership.

Having over 30 years experience of working within the voluntary sector, I joined the board of trustees in March 2022 to use my skills and experience to help make a difference to the health and social care sector in my local area.  I have worked with several Healthwatch organisations over the years, and recognised the vital role that they play in bringing the voice of a wide range of service users to the attention of those people providing health and care services, influencing decisions to bring about improvements to services where needed.  I felt that my experience in community development, service provision for disadvantaged and vulnerable groups and community engagement, gained through working for a number of national charities was a good fit with the organisation’s mission and values.

Since joining the board I have been impressed by the breadth of work delivered by the staff team, volunteers and the support given by the trustees, alongside the number of people who have taken time to provide feedback on the services they have used and suggestions for where improvements are needed.

Moving into the role of chair I hope to provide effective leadership for the board of trustees and that collectively we ensure that the organisation continues to have clear direction and achieves its aims.  We are very fortunate to have a committed group of trustees with wide ranging experience, and we will be working to make sure that we use our skills, experience and energy to support the organisation effectively.
